Midnight Commander as FTP client with .netrc

MC has a “Directory hotlist” which funcitons as bookmarking for locations (paths).

It can be accesed by pressing Ctrl+\ (Ctrl and backslash) or from the top menu under Commands.

For FTP credentials storing the ~/.netrc file can be used, but CAUTION because passwords are saved in plain text. A simple, but not 100% secure workaround is chmod 600 ~/.netrc

Sample content (syntax) of .netrc:

        login USERNAME
        password PASSWORD
